Papas is a fun and frisky little Chihuahua/Miniature Pinscher mix. He’s about 2 years old and weighs 13 lbs. Papas is friendly and he loves to play. He enjoys playing with other dogs. He does well interacting with playful pups and also with seniors who aren’t wanting to play… but he does prefer the company of the ladies! He’s okay with most male dogs if they are his size and pretty laid back, too, but really he’s a ladies man! If you have a dog you could make an appointment to bring your dog to meet Papas to see if they could be buddies.
When not playing, Papas loves to snuggle in cozy dog beds. He keeps his kennel clean.
Papas was originally a stray picked up by KCK Animal Services. He was emaciated and not eating well, so we transferred him to our care. Under the microscope, his red blood cells were very different in size/shape so we suspected that he may have had an auto-immune disease where his body was attacking normal red blood cells. We put Papas on steroids (prednisone) and he recovered very quickly! He gained some much-needed weight, he loves to eat, and he’s finished with his meds. We are optimistic that this will not recur in the future but cannot guarantee it. We suspect that because he was so emaciated, dehydrated and anemic when he was found that it caused his red blood cells to be out of whack, and in that case, he should be just fine in the future.
